ABOUT US

WHO WE ARE

Rohi's Readery serves as a space to tap into unapologetic truth. To build community. To be seen, valued, and loved. To belong. We believe in the brilliance of our people and use multimedia storytelling as living doorways to healing, empowerment, and the liberation of historically marginalized communities. What began as a children's bookstore known for its diverse collection of stories and cultural events has grown into a community safe space for healing and empowerment for all ages.

Driven by a commitment to amplify the voices of historically marginalized communities, including Black, Indigenous, Arab, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latine, LGBTQIA+, and the disability and neurodiverse communities, the Readery strives to create a space where individuals can find liberation in their identity while learning about the diverse stories of others.

With after-school programs and special events powered by our nonprofit—Rohi's Liberation Station—we empower our community through critical literacy, creative storytelling, and community connection & healing.

FOR THE ANCESTORS

OUR STORY

Rohi's Readery was named after Pranoo's annama (grandmother in Hindi), who was a fierce advocate for girls' education during colonized rule in India. Annama Rohini's unwavering dedication to education and justice inspires our mission to create an inclusive, empowering community space where the stories of marginalized groups are celebrated and honored.

Rohi's Readery was born in 2021, but its beginnings are rooted in Pranoo's first classrooms in Harlem, the South Bronx, and Seattle. After transitioning out of a medical career, Pranoo co-founded early childhood programs on both coasts with a commitment to identity-driven learning, including Washington state's first elementary charter emphasizing decolonized, social-emotional, project-based learning. In 2019, Pranoo established divHERse education consulting in South Florida to address the need for representation of Women of Color in education leadership.

Seeking community, Pranoo opened Rohi’s Readery—a small but mighty social justice-driven children's bookstore in CityPlace.  Community blossomed through hundreds of events, partnerships, collaborations, and free programs. In 2024, Rohi's Readery was awarded the bid to purchase the newly renovated building at 630 7th Street in the Historic Northwest Neighborhood of West Palm Beach. Since moving into our forever home in 2025, we have officially launched our nonprofit initiative, Rohi's Liberation Station 501(c)3, and refocused our mission to serve the children, adults, and elders in the Historic Northwest.
